A family trip to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate turned tragic when four-year-old Zaahir Jan was killed in an accident.
On August 7, 2025, just after 4 p.m., Zaahir was leaving the hospital with his family after visiting his grandmother. Near the A\&E entrance, he was struck by a white single-decker bus. Witnesses recalled “screeching brakes” and the shock of realizing a child had been hit. Emergency staff rushed him inside, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Kent Police confirmed his family was informed immediately and are appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage. Zaahir, the youngest of five, was remembered for “a cheeky smile that could make anyone’s heart full.” His death came just six days after the family lost his cousin’s mother, leaving relatives describing the pain as “unbearable.”
His mother, Azaria, launched a GoFundMe for burial costs, writing of the heartbreak of never again holding or hearing her son. The fundraiser is also linked to the cousin’s mother’s funeral.
Tributes have flooded social media, with friends, neighbors, and strangers sharing photos and memories of the joyful boy whose absence now hangs heavily outside QEQM Hospital.
