Born near Paris on November 8, 1935, Alain Delon experienced family upheaval long before becoming a screen icon. His mother worked in a pharmacy, then became a cashier at his father’s cinema. After his parents separated, both remarried, and his childhood unfolded across two families. His mother later worked alongside his stepfather in a butcher’s shop, while a nanny helped care for him. Delon recalled initially enjoying the arrangement, only to develop the painful feeling that nobody truly cared.
School offered little stability. Repeated misbehavior brought expulsions and frequent changes of classroom. He trained as a butcher, spent a short period working in the shop, and then took another retail job. Military service followed—an experience he later credited with strengthening his character. Back in civilian life, he worked as a waiter. These early years reveal a restless young man whose path to fame began far from any film set.
