The November 15 landslide struck Highway 99, also known as Duffey Lake Road, south of Lillooet. A woman’s body was recovered Monday, followed by one man on Wednesday and two more on Thursday, B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe said in a Saturday statement. Authorities were working to identify the men and notify their next of kin. Attempts on Friday to locate a fourth missing man were unsuccessful, despite continued efforts at the site.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said adverse weather and difficult conditions had hindered the operation. Lapointe confirmed that search efforts had concluded, with discussions continuing about possible next steps. The highway remained closed, with no reopening date announced. Offering condolences to bereaved families and the missing man’s loved ones, Lapointe pledged that the BC Coroners Service would establish the facts surrounding the deaths and, where possible, recommend measures to prevent similar tragedies following the region’s destructive rainfall, flooding and landslides.
